SYNOPSIS director: Pavol Barabáš
|
Barabáš´s climbing DVD The internationally acclaimed Slovak filmmaker Pavol Barabáš has surprised us again. On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the first Slovak ascent of Mount Everest and the tragic death of Juzek Psotka, he released a new DVD for climbing fans entitled "Everest - Juzek Psotka", with the subtitle "Slovaks on the World's Highest Mountain". The DVD contains in particular a sensitively directed and processed 26-minute portrait of this significant figure of Slovak mountaineering through the eyes of his closest family, friends and co-climbers, which last year was broadcast on Slovak Television within the cycle "Joy of Life". In the part entitled Czechoslovak Himalayan Adventure, he added other testimony from the participants together with pictures from three other Slovak expeditions that conquered the highest peak on Earth, Mount Everest (1984, 1988, 1998), and also from Czechoslovak expeditions to Nanga Parbat in 1969 and 1971, Makalu in 1973 and 1976, Kanchenjunga in 1981, Lhotse in 1984 and other curiosities and statistics. After his film "80 Meters below the Summit" about an expedition to Kanchenjunga in which he took part in 1997, it is another DVD from Palo Barabáš about the Himalayas that maps the remarkable adventures of Slovak climbers there. Published by K2 studio, it has a total length of 52 minutes. Milan Vranka (The author is an editor of the daily Sport) |
